How Many Internet Users Google Themselves??

To commemorate Google’s 15th birthday, Pew Internet released Friday results of a survey conducted in April and May showing that 56 percent of Internet users have used search engines to “look up their own name to see what information is available about them online.”

That’s up from 22 percent in 2001 when Pew first asked that question, but slightly down from the 57 percent of users who said they had searched for themselves in 2009. Don’t like what you see when you Google yourself? The search giant offers tips on how to manage your online reputation.

Google offers a “Me on the Web” feature that allows you to receive a notification whenever information about you, such as an email address or phone number, is published online. Read more…

BlackBerry to Fire 4,500 employees as Sales of New Device Plummet




BlackBerry confirmed it was firing 4,500 of its staff on Friday as the struggling smartphone firm said it expects to lose nearly $1bn in the three months to August on disappointing sales of new phones.

Revenues for the three months were only $1.6bn, the company said, against analysts' forecasts of $3bn – indicative of a collapse in its business after lacklustre sales of its new Z10 and Q10 phones. In all, it shipped 3.7m smartphones in the quarter, its lowest since summer 2007, when the first iPhone came out.

The company's shares crashed from $10.20 to $8.03 before recovering to $8.73, a 17% drop on the day, valuing it at $4.5bn. The shares were briefly suspended as rumours of the loss circulated, and it was forced to indicate its quarterly earnings a week ahead of their scheduled date. It said it would announce a loss of between $930m and $955m next week.

Do You Have a Killer Communication Strategy?

So many prospects and clients to kill, so little time. But don’t worry; salespeople all over the world are doing their damnedest to kill as many prospects and clients as possible every day. Their weapon of choice? Communication—or more specifically, communication fraud. I suspect you are like me, getting dozens of emails, phone calls, snail mail letters, and even face-to-face meetings with sellers who seem to have only one goal—waste as much of my time as possible.

They email and call wanting to know if I’m doing OK, or if I need anything, or if they can show me a new product or service without having the slightest idea if I need it or could actually use it. Some call to simply let me know they’re still around and want my business. Many of these intrepid sellers have bombarded me with so much time wasting junk communication that they’ve taught me to completely ignore them. When I see an email or letter from them or if I get a voice mail message from them I know that I need pay absolutely no attention to them.

 Their time wasting communications have completely killed me off as a prospect—and, worse, I’ve even had some sellers kill me off as a client because of their insistence on trying to waste my time.

You are already an expert at writing value propositions. Over the course of your lifetime you’ve written thousands of value propositions. Well, to be honest, you didn’t actually write these value propositions. But rest assured, you did create value proposition. Let’s look at example. Remember when you upgraded your computer and bought that new MacBook Air? Did you really need the MacBook Air?

We could have an interesting debate over whether you wanted it or needed it, but there is no debating that you came up with a compelling value proposition. What did you tell yourself when you bought that computer? Maybe you told yourself that your old computer was too slow and that your work requires a faster computer. You might have told yourself that your new Macbook Air would boot in seconds, preventing you from having to wait to start working and saving you time.

Perhaps you told yourself that the new computer would be light enough that you could carry it everywhere with you, allowing you to work from anywhere and making you even more efficient. If you were really convincing when you sold yourself, you explained to yourself how much money your time was worth and how much more you would make with a faster, lighter, sexier computer

Related Dish Network on Monday launched an unsolicited $25.5 billion cash and stock bid for Sprint Nextel to create a combined company that would be able to offer nationwide pay-TV and cellphone service.

The proposal competes against a pending merger between Sprint and Tokyo-based Softbank, which in October offered $20 billion for a 70 percent stake in the No. 3 U.S. wireless carrier. Dish, the nation's third largest pay-TV provider, said its bid "represents superior value to Sprint shareholders." The proposal consists of $17.3 billion cash and $8.2 billion in stock, versus Softbank's offer of $12 billion in cash and $8 billion in investment capital.

1. Build a Great Online Presence Before a company decides to send you that 'Congratulations, You've Been Hired!' email, they'll do the obligatory search for your name online to determine what kind of presence you have. You want to aim for a professional one that highlights your professional achievements, passions and connections. A cursory search on Google by a company recruiter should come up with things like your resume, your LinkedIn profile or Twitter page. A unique way of doing this would be to present your skills in video form, where you talk into a camera, highlighting your experience, achievements and reasons why an employer should choose you. Invest in good grooming, and ask a friend to shoot the video.

You can post this video on Facebook and tag your friends and family. If done well, this strategy might see your video resume going viral in a few days, bringing you more employment opportunities that you can ever imagine.

Yahoo Teams With Facebook For Site Revamp!



(Reuters) - Yahoo Inc is overhauling its website to incorporate features familiar to Facebook users such as a newsfeed and people's "likes," in CEO Marissa Mayer's biggest product revamp since taking the helm of the ailing company last year.

Mayer, who took over in July after a procession of CEOs was shown the door, said in a blog post on Wednesday that Yahoo's redesigned website will let users log in with their Facebook IDs to gain access to content and information shared by friends - from articles and videos to birthdays.

Yahoo is one of the world's most-visited online properties, but revenue has declined in recent years amid competition from Google Inc and Facebook Inc. The changes to Yahoo's Internet shop window, which include a more streamlined mobile application for smartphones and tablets, will be rolled out over coming days. The makeover follows a new version of Yahoo mail, one of its most popular applications, introduced in December.

7 Sales Tips To Get Ahead Of Your Competitors In 2013

1. Ringfence All Your Existing Accounts If you want to get ahead, and stay ahead, of your competitors in 2013, the very first thing you need to do is ringfence all your existing customers.

What are your relationships like with your existing accounts? The ones you don’t get on as well with? Would they tell you if a competitor had been in? And if they did, would you retain the business at the same price, or would you have to price match to keep it?

2. Focus Your Prospecting The quality of your prospecting will be one of the biggest factors in how successful you are in 2013. As the individual salesperson is asked to do more and more, it’s vital that the time you spend prospecting is time well spent. There will be certain specific criteria that make certain prospects more ideal for you than others. If you don’t know what they are, you need to find them out – and fast! If you’re really not sure, take a look at your existing client base. What was it that made them purchase at the moment they did?

3. Become A ‘Valued Resource’ In order to be seen as a valued resource, you have to earn it. You have to give value first. You have to get updated on industry trends, technological advancements and understand the impact that these could have on your client’s business. You have to be able to hold a business conversation with the level of decision makers you’re meeting. Invest the time to do things like this, and it will pay you back tenfold!

4. Have A Plan For Your Attack One of the best ways to get ahead of the competition in 2013 is to get some of their customers off them! Why not map out competitors accounts in your territory, then create a call plan for getting into see them, and focus on winning their business. If you’re in internal sales, make notes on the prospects that are currently using your competition, then filter the data by competitors name. Then you can create a phone campaign designed specifically to convert their customers to your customers instead! Experience shows that dedicated and focused approaches like those above have a far better chance of success – and also put a big dent in your competitor’s motivation at the same time.

5. Increase Your Activity Now, once you’ve targeted your prospecting, the next thing you need to do is crank up the volume. I’m a big fan of a high level of activity and the reason for this, is that the more deals you have in your pipeline, the more you can afford to lose! Purely by increasing your activity, you increase your chances of success – and therefore increase the amount of money you can earn. Who wouldn’t want to do that?

6. Develop Consistent Motivation We all know that motivation is important for a salesperson. But it’s the salesperson’s ability to be consistently motivated that will help them stand out from the rest, and stay ahead of their competition in 2013.

7. Sharpen Your Sales Skills If you truly want to stay ahead of your competition in 2013, you’ll need to sharpen your sales skills. This means getting up-to-date, relevant sales tips and advice from trusted sources. If you get some internal training at your company, great! If your company invests in bringing an external trainer or motivator to help you improve, even better! If you’re one of those people that believes in investing in yourself (even if your company doesn’t). I take my hat off to you.
