How Sales Reps Can Get to Yes Despite the Constant Barrage of No’s
In SaaS sales, SDRs and AEs are faced with a relentless stream of objections, constant refusals and straight up rejections. Not everyone can handle this kind of punishment. That’s why these sales reps are a special breed and a critical part of any company.
Overcoming the constant barrage of no’s is not an easy feat. There are many things that you can do to prepare yourself, but many of them are not taught in employee onboarding or can be found in the latest book of closing techniques. A sales mentor of mine used to say, “If you need to close, you opened poorly.” There are two ways successful sales reps deal with this challenge: internally and externally. The most successful sales reps know best what to tell their prospects and what to tell themselves when faced with a “no.” Learning how to externally deal with prospects after hearing “no” is more than rebutting objections and trying a different closing technique.
You have to understand the real reason behind the “no.” Learning what to say to yourself — and how to handle the emotions that go hand in hand with frequent rejection — is equally important. I’m sure you’ve worked with the rep that is always happy, smiling and in a good mood. People often chock it up to genetics: “It’s in her DNA. She’s just a positive person.” Though it may be true that she’s a positive person, attributing happiness and her success in sales to genetics is inaccurate. The real forces at work are mental toughness and emotional dexterity.
How To Stay Mentally Tough When Faced With “No”
1.Exert Control over the Situation: Determine that you are in control over the situation. Determine that you can and will get positive results even when faced with rejection. Perception is reality.
2.Let Go of Your Ego: Believe it or not, it’s not always about you. The prospect is not saying no to you, he/she is saying no to the product. As Dr. Maxwell Maltz wrote, “You are not your failures.”
3.“No” Does Not Always Mean “No”: Don’t confuse rejection with refusal. I’m not suggesting you pester your prospects into submission until they say “yes.” This “don’t take no for an answer” approach is what gave sales a dirty name in the first place. But realize that “no” could mean “not now.” Following up appropriately and offering true value often leads to a “yes” in the end.
4.Learn: Everything is a learning opportunity. Once you take that perspective, then you can move on and become stronger. Failure only comes when you fail to learn the lesson.

IoT Internet of Things Could Unlock $11 trillion by 2025!
One of the truisms of digital disruption is that ultimately most benefit accrues to the end consumer, mostly in avoided costs. The Internet of thins might be about to top that on its head. According to an analysis by management consulting group McKinsey and Company, “Although consumer applications seem to be on the leading edge of adoption, nearly 70 percent of the projected economic value will eventually come from the use of sensor technology and swarm intelligence among B2B users.”
Although IoT is still coming into focus for many, it already connects more than nine billion devices worldwide; over the next five years, that number is expected to grow to between 20 billion Intel, A Guide to the Internet of Things, available here and 50 billion Cisco, The Internet of Things, available here devices. In 2025, IoT is expected to create between $4 trillion to $11 trillion in economic benefits globally.
In a discussion paper entitled, Preparing IT systems and organizations for the Internet of Things McKinsey researchers Johannes Deichmann, Matthias Roggendorf, and Dominik Wee describe the opportunity as huge, but caution that there is a lot of uncertainty for companies. “Questions remain about how to accurately assess the business opportunities in the Internet of Things, how to build a technology stack (the layers of hardware, software applications, operating platforms, and networks that make up IT architecture) to support current and future Internet of Things applications and devices, and whether companies should invest in open or proprietary technologies,” they say.

Gartner Identifies the Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2016
Analysts Explore Top Industry Trends at Gartner Symposium/ITxpo, in Orlando
Gartner, Inc. today highlighted the top 10 technology trends that will be strategic for most organizations in 2016. Analysts presented their findings during the sold-out Gartner Symposium/ITxpo, which is taking place here through Thursday. Gartner defines a strategic technology trend as one with the potential for significant impact on the organization. Factors that denote significant impact include a high potential for disruption to the business, end users or IT, the need for a major investment, or the risk of being late to adopt.
The top 10 strategic technology trends for 2016 are:
The Device Mesh
The device mesh refers to an expanding set of endpoints people use to access applications and information or interact with people, social communities, governments and businesses. The device mesh includes mobile devices, wearable, consumer and home electronic devices, automotive devices and environmental devices — such as sensors in the Internet of Things (IoT).
Ambient User Experience
The device mesh creates the foundation for a new continuous and ambient user experience. Immersive environments delivering augmented and virtual reality hold significant potential but are only one aspect of the experience. The ambient user experience preserves continuity across boundaries of device mesh, time and space. The experience seamlessly flows across a shifting set of devices and interaction channels blending physical, virtual and electronic environment as the user moves from one place to another.
3D Printing Materials
Advances in 3D printing have already enabled 3D printing to use a wide range of materials, including advanced nickel alloys, carbon fiber, glass, conductive ink, electronics, pharmaceuticals and biological materials. These innovations are driving user demand, as the practical applications for 3D printers expand to more sectors, including aerospace, medical, automotive, energy and the military.
Information of Everything
Everything in the digital mesh produces, uses and transmits information. This information goes beyond textual, audio and video information to include sensory and contextual information. Information of everything addresses this influx with strategies and technologies to link data from all these different data sources. Information has always existed everywhere but has often been isolated, incomplete, unavailable or unintelligible. Advances in semantic tools such as graph databases as well as other emerging data classification and information analysis techniques will bring meaning to the often chaotic deluge of information.
Advanced Machine
Learning In advanced machine learning, deep neural nets (DNNs) move beyond classic computing and information management to create systems that can autonomously learn to perceive the world, on their own. The explosion of data sources and complexity of information makes manual classification and analysis infeasible and uneconomic.
Autonomous Agents and Things
Machine learning gives rise to a spectrum of smart machine implementations — including robots, autonomous vehicles, virtual personal assistants (VPAs) and smart advisors — that act in an autonomous (or at least semiautonomous) manner. While advances in physical smart machines such as robots get a great deal of attention, the software-based smart machines have a more near-term and broader impact. VPAs such as Google Now, Microsoft's Cortana and Apple's Siri are becoming smarter and are precursors to autonomous agents.
Adaptive Security
Architecture The complexities of digital business and the algorithmic economy combined with an emerging "hacker industry" significantly increase the threat surface for an organization. Relying on perimeter defense and rule-based security is inadequate, especially as organizations exploit more cloud-based services and open APIs for customers and partners to integrate with their systems.
Advanced System Architecture
The digital mesh and smart machines require intense computing architecture demands to make them viable for organizations. Providing this required boost are high-powered and ultraefficient neuromorphic architectures. Fueled by field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) as an underlining technology for neuromorphic architectures, there are significant gains to this architecture, such as being able to run at speeds of greater than a teraflop with high-energy efficiency.
Mesh App and Service Architecture
Monolithic, linear application designs (e.g., the three-tier architecture) are giving way to a more loosely coupled integrative approach: the apps and services architecture. Enabled by software-defined application services, this new approach enables Web-scale performance, flexibility and agility. Microservice architecture is an emerging pattern for building distributed applications that support agile delivery and scalable deployment, both on-premises and in the cloud.
Internet of Things Platforms
IoT platforms complement the mesh app and service architecture. The management, security, integration and other technologies and standards of the IoT platform are the base set of capabilities for building, managing and securing elements in the IoT. IoT platforms constitute the work IT does behind the scenes from an architectural and a technology standpoint to make the IoT a reality. The IoT is an integral part of the digital mesh and ambient user experience and the emerging and dynamic world of IoT platforms is what makes them possible. "Any enterprise embracing the IoT will need to develop an IoT platform strategy, but incomplete competing vendor approaches will make standardization difficult through 2018," said Mr. Cearley.

CIO'S Focusing on Digital Transformation & Changes in Technology For 2016
IDC predicts digital transformation will shape 2016
What will IT leaders focus on in 2016? The recently released "IDC FutureScape: Worldside CIO Agenda 2016 Predictions" report outlines what the research firms sees as the most significant predictions for the coming years. According to IDC, the biggest issues in IT leadership will center on business needs, capabilities and availability related to digital transformation.
The data shows that two-thirds of CEOs plan to focus on digital transformation strategies for 2016 and that CIOs will be major players in leading every department through this shift. In terms of capabilities, only 25 percent of CIOs report feeling confident in how they are driving new digital revenue streams.
When it comes to availability, CIOs are focused on legacy IT services and how to maintain them with limited budgets, while also increasing digital transformation within the business. In order to accomplish these goals and maintain success in the coming year, businesses will have to focus on innovation, integration and incorporation, according to IDC. That includes implementing cross-functional partnerships, investing in new technology and fostering a culture of innovation within IT.

Twas The Night Before Month End...
Twas The Night Before Month End
Twas the day before month end and across every floor,
All the salespeople were scurrying some right out the door.
The goals had been hung on a white board with care,
In hopes that this month would find everyone there.
Sales managers were nestled in a conference with dread.
While visions of bonuses still danced in their head!
The CEO with her figures and I my sales map,
Had just settled down for our afternoon chat.
When out on the sales floor arose such a clatter,
I sprang from our meeting to see what was the matter!
Away to my team I flew like a flash -
Arriving in moments after my 50 yard dash.
Above all the murmurs and shouting I heard, "PO"
Which gave the luster of goal to all gathered below.
When, what to my wondering eyes did appear,
The salesperson with an order that would make them their year!
So over the details, by line we went quick,
Ensuring the warehouse each item could pick.
More rapid than eagles accounting they came,
And wanted more info, the customer credit to gain;
Away they all went to make the D&B call,
Making sure that the deal would be good for us all.
The answer was quick, as we all knew the stakes!
Yes, accounting cried, you've not make a mistake.
Now back to her desk the salesperson flew,
Customer info to update and order entry to do.
The warehouse was bustling, more coffee they drank,
It wouldn't be THEIR fault if our numbers did tank.
Then the pick slip started printing, the paper did fly,
The pages kept printing, right up to the sky!
They all started running to pack all the stuff,
Sales held their breath, would it be enough?
When the boxes were labeled and stacked on the dock,
We let out our breath then glanced up at the clock.
We did it, we'd made it - yes right on the nose,
Then cheers they did shout and the volume it rose.
To cut through the noise the salesperson did whistle,
"If you needed proof forecasting works, I'm sure this'll!"
Surprised at this admission, I looked all around,
They were all still smiling, not a face held a frown.
Knowing I couldn't say it better myself,
I shuffled some paper to stack on the shelf.
Still patting her back, the sales team turned to go,
A good month on the books - we still basked in the glow.
And I heard her exclaim as she left for the night,
It's amazing what happens, when you plan it all right!
