Denver Fly Fishing Show & ISE International Sportsman Expo is Here!
Fly Fishing Shows RecapLink
Happy New Year to all my fishing addicts out there and I hope you enjoyed the Holidays either dreaming of fly fishing, or better yet, entertaining oneself hopefully out on the water.
It's that time of year again when the weather turns cold, snow is falling and thoughts of a much needed escape soon takes over. Most are back to work this week and I can only imagine how much work is getting done, or lack of that is and computer screens are suddenly filled with Fly fishing videos as well as upcoming Fly Fishing shows to attend.
January kicks off Colorado's season for Fly Fishing shows and it couldn't have come any sooner! Just the thought of spending my weekends stuck inside working, outside shoveling snow or down in my man cave fly fishing room cleaning up has me excited to attend anything fly fishing related.
One problem that keeps showing its ugly head, and yes it's an ugly one is The Fact that we have to shows the exact same weekend to attend. Most fisherman and addicts would only be too happy to have this late Christmas present arrive, myself not so fast!
When is it ever a good thing to have two fly fishing shows compete with one another especially the Powerhouse of the ISE to make their 2nd annual show the same time as the Industry's favorite "The Fly Fishing Show?" Now this I'm sure will be a topic worth discussing for quite some time and I'm all for it but when I'm friend's with the guy who has been putting together the Denver Fly Fishing Show (also the MA/NJ/PA/NC and California shows) I have noticed a bailout of sorts with companies, speakers and attendees. Last year it was not a good site to see the show not as crowded as years before and also the vendors who normally attend with great regards found themselves making a difficult decision to go with the ISE. I do not fault the vendors or companies at all, you have to go where the business is so it's just the organizers of the ISE I have a problem with. I fault the ISE for once again trying to shove out the Fly Fishing Show for their own personal gains and to dominate an open Industry that needs all that it can get to survive.
If you want to attend the ISE International Sportsman Show that's cool and I will be there as well (one of my 3 days split between the 2 shows) and I'm looking forward to it. I have many friends speaking and attending this great show as well I just do not agree with the way this was scheduled and hope that they are able to change things next year, as was told to me last year due to a ski show conflict, this year not so much.
One thing is for certain, you can get your fill at either show and if you're lucky enough, attend both shows and support both causes.

ATS Tips To Help in Your Job Search and Resume Sendouts
Posted on April 19, 2010 by jobs
Sometimes the electronic job search process can feel like a black hole, but there are some things you can do to make sure your resume doesn’t get swallowed up by an ATS (Click here).
Here are 10 tips that will increase the odds of your resume making it through an ATS, as compiled by CIO.com:
1.Apply to jobs for which you’re qualified – In this day and age, the competition for jobs is tough, because there are so many qualified professionals looking for work. With that in mind, it’s better to apply for jobs that closely match your own skills and abilities, which should be the same ones listed in the job ad.
2.Know what keywords to include in your resume and cover letter – You should read each job ad in order to get a feel for the skills an employer is looking for, and target your resume accordingly, because listing those skills on your resume will make it easier to get through an ATS.
3.Learn how to pack your resume with keywords – legitimately – Most ATS use keyword-matching algorithms in order to identify potential candidates, so your resume should include the keywords and employers is looking for. You can easily do this by creating a paragraph near the top of your resume labeled "Strengths" or "Core Competencies," and listing any skills you have that match requirements in the job ad.
4.Vary your terminology – ATS are smart enough to understand variations of certain words, but it never hurts to change up the terms in your resume. For instance, use "programmer" and "developer" when applying for a software developer position.
5.Don’t let your location hold you back – Some employers use ATS to screen applicants based on their location, but finding a local phone number or address to use can help you avoid this.
6.Don’t use any fancy formatting or fonts – It’s easier for ATS to scan simply-formatted resumes, which means you should avoid graphics, pictures and tables. You also should limit the amount of bold, italics and underlining, and use a single font that will scan easily.
7.Emphasize relevant accomplishments – Even if your resume gets through an ATS, a hiring manager most likely won’t spend more than 10 seconds looking at it, making it important to highlight your accomplishments so they’re easy to find.
8.Mail a hard copy of your resume – Some job seekers may benefit from mailing a copy of their resume to prospective employers after submitting an electronic copy. You can attach a note saying it’s your second submission and that you’re very interested in the job, which could help you stand
out from the competition.
9.Follow up with a phone call – This is another way you can confirm that a company has received your resume and cover letter, while at the same time standing out and putting in extra effort, which every employer likes to see.
10.Don’t spend all your time on your resume or trying to game the system – Don’t get too hung up on trying to create the perfect resume or matching your qualifications to a job description. Using a simple tool such as a resume builder can help you stay focused without overdoing it.

October is Adopt A Dog Month! Get Busy People
October is a special month for many, Fall is in full gear with big fish on the move and snow is on the way for Colorado skiers. October is also a special month for Pets alike and shelter dogs in need...Adopt A Dog Month is Here
I usually don't like to talk about subjects outside of fishing or matters that many may not agree with, but I think we all can agree that a Pet in need is always a Pet worth talking about! I'm actively involved with various pet organizations being in the business and love to spread the word when possible to help our 4 legged friends.
What Can an Adopted Dog Bring to Your Life?
There are as many responses to that question as there are dogs in this world! That’s why -- during American Humane Association’s Adopt-A-Dog Month celebration in October -- we’re encouraging people to adopt a shelter dog and experience the joy of finding their own answers.
Are you looking for:
•an exercise buddy?
•a best friend and confidant for your child?
•a dog you can train with to learn animal-assisted therapy?
•a partner in agility competitions?
•a constant companion for your favorite senior citizen?
•a fuzzy face to greet you after a hard day at work?
Contact AHA or your local shelter today and save the life of a little one! Thanks

The Web Conferencing Industry!
By Tom Chmielewski, eHow Contributor
Link
I want to do this! What's This? With expanding Internet broadband service, rising airline ticket prices and a growing variety of services to choose from, it's not surprising the Web conference industry is booming. What had been a narrow choice of online conferencing services that were clunky, expensive and prone to crash at embarrassing moments has become a mainstay of small and mid-size businesses.
Web conferencing continues to grow.
Growing Spurt
CNN Money reported the Web conferencing industry grew by 19 percent in 2008. Research firm Frost and Sullivan told CNN that sales of Web conferencing programs and services exceeded $1.1 billion for the year.
Long distance conferencing, primarily video conferencing, has been around for a while, but the expense of the video hookups and satellite connections made it a affordable only for large companies. Web conferencing brought the advantage and cost savings of online meetings with clients to smaller companies, even startups with only one or two employees.
Competition
There are a number of companies offering programs and online services for Web conferencing. Prices vary greatly as does the quality of the service. But it's a rapidly changing market and upgrades occur frequently.
You can obtain basic Web conferencing services for usually under $100 a month. A couple of companies such as Yugma.com and Dimdim.com offer their basic package for free, with upgrades starting at under $20 a month.
Citrix Online, which sells the most popular Web conferencing service, GoToMeeting, reported in September 2009 a growth of 40 percent year-over-year, twice the industry average.
Other Major Players
In a December 2008 online article, InsideCRM.com listed the "major players" in Web conferencing which included some big names in computing, and other companies many have never heard of.
Adobe Acrobat Connect unites a standard format for document sharing, the PDF, with online meeting features such as application and desktop sharing, video conferencing and whiteboards, based on Adobe's Flash technology. IBM Lotus Sametime Unyte Meeting offers a pay-per-minute option as well as flat rates up to $99 per month for 999 seats at a cyber meeting.
Microsoft Office Live Meeting, WebEx MeetMeNow, Intercall, Saba Centra and iLink are other established web conference services.

Keep Your Pet Safe From Winter Hazards. To protect your pet during the cold winter months, the Dumb Friends League recommends the following safety advice: *Keep an eye on the temperature. When it falls below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, it's best to keep your pet indoors. *Keep your pet's coat well groomed. Matted fur won't properly protect your pet from the cold. *Check your garage and driveway for antifreeze. Antifreeze tastes sweet to pets, but most brands are poisonous if consumed. *Regularly check your pet's water to make sure it's not frozen. When your pet is outside, make sure there is plenty of fresh drinking water available. *Use a damp towel to wipe your pet's feet and underside. Ice-melting chemicals can irritate and burn the pads of your pet's feet and can cause serious injury if ingested. *Provide a dry, draft-free doghouse if you must keep your dog outside for any period of time. It should be large enough to allow your dog to sit and lay down comfortably but small enough to hold in its body heat. T *Keep snow from piling high next to your fence. A packed snowdrift will provide a boost for your dog to jump over the fence *Compare the amount of exercise your dog receives during the colder months to warmer months. If your dog is indoors more at this time of year, it's probably getting less exercise and may need less food.
Please Help us and Donate to Denverdaawg's Annual Christmas Holiday Pet Drive. Contact me for more information, our deadline is December 18th and all Pet items are accepted!
Looking for Denver Dog Parks click on me, or off leash areas look no further Statistics show that 1 in 3 families own a Pet, well here in Colorado I have to think that number jumps to every other family! Denver has been voted many years running the Top city in the U.S. to own a Pet and I believe it. The question is how to better improve your Pet's behavior, health or well being...that's where I come in.
Denverdaawg Here To Make Your Life Easier!
Why do I need a Pet Sitter or Dog Walker? If you are like most working Americans you are low on time and high on tasks. You might put in long hours at the office. This shortens the amount of time you spend engaging in dog walking with your best canine friend every day. Different dog breeds have different daily exercise requirements, so your pooch might need extensive dog walking or run in the middle of the day to keep from Behavior issues. How can you take your dog walking and be at work at the same time? You can hire a dog walker to be your dog walking replacement while you are at work. Often times a dog walker is more then just a necessity because many dogs that have limited dog walking time become irritable. Dogs need to have daily exercise and human connection through dog walking. This lack of exercise has let excess energy build up and can make your loving pet a little less loving.

Top Denver Job Search, Websites, Recruiters, Sales Rep Info, Job Fairs, Renewable Energy, IT-Telecomm and Resume Tips!
Job search according to researchers is common cause for depression, which we'll need to avoid for obvious reasons. People always talk about "black hole" - this mysterious place where your resumes go and are never heard of again. Months of silence and desperation, fears and worries can develop into anxiety.
Now what I suggest you do is to expand your horizons, to think outside the box.
1. Don't apply only for the jobs that you've done before. You've got your list of jobs you'll never be able to do and your dream jobs and you have an approximate salary that you need to survive. Here is your range: put into the search criteria your salary and exclude the jobs you won't do. Anything else is fair game.
2. Use global search engines like indeed.com or careerjet.com without geographic specifications. Think outside the box - plenty of people can not think of moving the country or even state, but what if your dream job is somewhere on tropical island and offers a very attractive package for relocation? Consider how much less competition you face here with so many people being afraid to relocate.
3. Think of your unique skills and put them through job search engine as criteria again without limiting yourself by location. You'll find very interesting results I reckon.
4. Don't forget you've got another skill which is very valuable - you are native English speaker. If you have any kind of degree you can teach in any part of the world. Last I've heard tropical islands in Thailand are very popular and South Korean schools pay very handsomely ($1000 - 2000 per month for a start). If you spend months and months searching for jobs in US why not take a break and go to Asia for a year - you'll save some money and travel around the region.
5. Consider jobs for couples outside US if your partner is in the same position as you and feel adventurous or desperate enough to apply for jobs elsewhere. There are housekeeping jobs for eco-resorts or luxury hotels around the world which offer full package - salary, accommodation and food. There are teaching jobs for couples as well.
6. At last but not least, look for distant jobs over the Internet. There are plenty of small businesses around, which employ you on short-term contract base to be their accountant, project manager, secretary, copywriter, translator, web developer, etc. through the Web. There are websites like Elance.com or oDesk.com and plenty of others to help you to get started.
Remember, huge unemployment benefit is that you have time to start anew, to search for an optimal occupation for yourself, just be brave and grab an opportunity to change your life.

Denver Area Renewable Energy Solar Jobs, Energy News and More!
Link to Great Green Careers Blog, Great Info
July 29th, 2010 As the immediate effects of the BP oil spill begin to fade, the long term effects are still be determined. The cleanup will continue to generate new jobs in the Gulf Region for months (if not years) to come. However, the oil spill wasn’t the only news in the green economy - read on:
•New efforts on a renewable electricity standard: Some clean energy and climate advocates have shifted their sights to a scaled-back but still ambitious goal: passage of a national renewable electricity standard. Such a law would require utility companies to produce a set amount of electricity from renewable sources by a certain date, spurring the development of clean sources like wind and solar and probably lowering overall emissions nationally. Such a standard would drive additional employment in the wind and solar sectors.
•Wind farm ‘mega-project’ underway in Mojave Desert: the project is officially breaking ground in the Tehachapi Pass, a burgeoning hot spot for wind energy about 75 miles north of Los Angeles. When completed, Alta could produce three times as much energy as the country’s largest existing wind farm, analysts said. It’s slated to be done in the next decade and will create hundreds of construction and maintenance jobs.
•New Stirling engine solar heating and power system in Colorado: Cool Energy, of Boulder, Colorado, a developer of clean energy heat and power generating systems, today announced that Xcel Energy will be providing research and analytical support for the first planned pilot field installation of the SolarFlowÆ System in a commercial building located in Boulder, Colorado.
•Xtreme Power raises cash for renewable-energy storage: Xtreme Power, an Austin, Texas company which is commercializing battery technology originally developed for electric vehicles, is expected to announce on Tuesday that it has raised nearly $30 million to expand into utility energy storage.

The latest green jobs news
July 7th, 2010 The summer is finally here, with heat drenching much of the nation. Green job news keeps popping up - which is a good thing!
•The Parking Lot as ‘Solar Grove’: Envision Solar builds “solar groves,” 1,000-square-foot canopies that shade parking lots while generating clean power from an array of photovoltaic panels. The company is now branching out into electric car generation by outfitting its solar canopies with charging stations for plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles.
•Green homes combine solar and energy efficiency: Meritage Homes, one of America’s top ten home builders, is now constructing more than 200 homes near Phoenix, Arizona that will be up to 80 percent more energy efficient than typical existing homes of the same size. The standard equipment solar energy system on the homes is the major player in cutting energy costs.
•Rosendin Electric Breaks Ground on $50 Million Solar Project: Rosendin Electric, the nation’s largest private electrical contractor and a 100-percent employee-owned company, will break ground this week on a new photovoltaic power installation project for the Antelope Valley Union High School District.
•Toshiba to Build Electric Drive Motors in the U.S.: Toshiba Corporation will expand manufacturing capacity at its plant in Houston, Texas for production of high-performance drive motors for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs). Toshiba will begin construction for the expanded capacity in January 2011 in Houston, Texas, on the site of Toshiba International Corporation. Production of the automotive motors would begin in 2012.
•Green tech, jobs hailed in Virgin America expansion:Virgin’s new routes and expanded presence at San Francisco’s airport will bring 500 jobs to the state per year over the course of the next few years.

Fly Fishing Patagonia! Guided Trips Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Esquel Chile..Big Trout & Discounted Trips!
What's on everyones top Fly Fishing destination bucket list? If Patagonia isn't on your list something is seriously wrong with you. Whether you're a beginner, a worldwide angler or simply someone that enjoys traveling and fishing new waters, this is your place!
My last trip to Patagonia still resonates with me every time I talk to someone about my next big fishing trip or my favorite trip to date. What is it about fishing in one of premiere locations on Earth you ask? Could it be the gorgeous scenery? The remote fishing locations? Incredible wines or Argentina beef? Or perhaps one of the best outfitters around born and raised in this area as well as being fluent in English...I think I was won over my first day there and never wanted to leave.
Checkout some incredible shots from past trips with Tres Piedras. Chile has countless bodies of water in the Lake District, as well as in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. We can guarantee that as you arrive to Patagonia, you will encounter many of the finest places for Fly Fishing in the country.
Indeed, in Patagonia there are many of those options for fly fishing: pristine and clear crystal waters in the rivers, lakes, streams, and lagoons. Most of these spots are accessible only by boat and have therefore remained relatively untouched by people.
Argentina is the fifth largest producer of wines in the world and the second largest in Latin America behind Chile so you can only imagine how good your lunch and dinner cocktails will be. Whether it's the savory Wine to cherish or the asado beef that you can't get enough of fireside, Tres Piedras can definitely customize each meal to meet your needs and having you saying wow a few 100x!
A lifetime fishing throughout the entire country, and ten years experience serving clients allow them to meet all expectations for fishing trips. A high return rate year after year and with only a few bookings left for the next season; contact us today to find out more! Be assured that we seek excellence in service, and try to acquaint our guests with Chilean Culture.
To satisfy the most common needs we have arranged four different kind of fishing packages, ranging from day trips to trips lasting up to a week. We also offer anglers the choice to take longer customized trips. Request complete information about prices, fishing, fishing destinations, species, equipment and all information you need to make a decision.
Whether you're looking for a few days away from the wife while down on vacation in Patagonia, a 7 day experience like no other in the far away reaches in search of huge trout, gorgeous scenery and solitude; or a package built to meet your needs, Tres Piedras has everything for you and your party!
The counties of Llanquihue are known for fly-fishing spots such as the Petrohue, Puelo, Cochamo and MaullÃn rivers, the Llanquihue, Rupanco and Todos Los Santos Lakes. All of these places are incredible for fly-fishing, however, there still remain hundreds of areas not yet discovered by the majority of fishers that are as good and sometimes better than the ones commonly known.
Contact me and I can pass along some great specials Tres Piedras has going on for the Upcoming season in Patagonia. With bookings filling up contact us today whether for more information, price specials or more about Tres Piedras. What's the worst that can happen, maybe you can start planning now for a trip of a lifetime!

Are You Linkedin For Sales Jobs? Denver, Tampa, Dallas or Atlanta...Look Here
What is LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is a social networking site for professionals in the business world. It allows people to interact with other professionals in their industry and maintain a profile that contains career-oriented information. Other job databases and networking sites can be expensive or hard to navigate. LinkedIn is free for most and very specific to the business world. This is the place to toot your own horn about your skills, abilities, and career goals.
Why it is so valuable?
As of October 15, 2009, LinkedIn hit a new milestone with over 50 million professionals now a part of this ever-growing database (as reported by the CEO of the company). This large number should get your attention. 80% of employers and recruiters use this database to prospect for new candidates because it is perhaps the easiest and most cost-effective tool employers and recruiters have ever had available to them. There is a strong chance that your next employer, recruiter, client, or business partner is already on LinkedIn. So all you have to do is leverage LinkedIn to begin that relationship.
How does it work?
LinkedIn provides a profile format that the job seeker completes. The profile details past employment, interests, specialty skills and experiences and allows you to include a profile photo. [Tip: Be sure to use a professional (business-appropriate) headshot photo for this, although it doesn't have to taken by a professional photographer.] Your profile can provide an employer or recruiter with a wealth of information before they ever speak to you. You can even reach out to those you have worked with in the past to get a recommendation about the quality of your work that will be displayed on your profile. These testimonials reinforce the details that are listed as well as help build trust about your work ethic-making them one of the most powerful aspects of your LinkedIn profile. One of the most valuable features of LinkedIn is its ability to show these recommendations, which allows hiring managers and human resources as well as recruiters to see if a potential employee is worth hiring. [Tip: You get to choose what recommendations you show on your profile. If the ones you have aren't strong enough or persuasive enough about you as a great employee, don't use them.]
What can it do for me?
LinkedIn is not just a networking site-it's a resource center. Once you have your profile set up you can start checking out the different areas of LinkedIn and learn how you might use them in your job search.
You can use the "Companies" section (top of the page) to find companies in your particular industry, along with an enormous amount of information about them-such as current employees, former employees, market size, location, website address, media age, jobs they have posted on LinkedIn, and stock information. Remember-candidates who get the job offer usually have done more research into the company and the job than other candidates. [Tip: Some candidates contact former employees of a company they are interviewing with to get an "insider" perspective as to what it was like to work there-that's pretty strong research, right?]

Updated Denver Job Market Tips
Brian Taylor, a managing director with Technisource, reports an increase in job orders for Java Weblogic, project managers and business analysts. Much of his business is coming from the telecommunications and healthcare industries. "I would say the end of the year was slow," observes Taylor. "We had 20 percent fewer hot job requirements in December compared to November. But in January, we doubled the number of job requirements compared to November."
George Denlinger, regional vice president in Robert Half Technology's Denver office, also has seen an increase in job orders. "We saw sequential month-over-month growth in November and December," he says. "We hadn't seen sequential, month-over-month growth for the entire year."
Denver is America's eighth-best city for job seekers, and Colorado ranks No. 8 among the states, according to job search engine http://www.juju.com/
Juju's "Job Search Difficulty Index" is based on the ratio of jobless workers in a given market to job openings advertised online.

Hanging With Denver's Mayor on Earth Day!
I was doing a little Volunteer work yesterday for the Rocky Mountain Green Summit being held here in Denver. Nice way to find out what's going on around the state Environmentally and also what the future hold for this great Rocky Mountain State.
Hanging with Mayor Hickenlooper.
Nothing like your friend using a crummy cell
indoors & catching you offguard
One of the benfits of volunteering at events like this is that you not only get to Network with companies within the Industry I am focusing on, but also you get to hangout with Politicos like Mayor Hickenlooper. Since I had a minute, I got to ask him a few questions about our Renewable Resources and waterways!
Whether it was his topic of Green Successes in Transportation, Housing, and Energy Efficiency, or Denver's Greenprint plans and Clean Water. Hickenlooper, a former Geologist back in the day, has many great ideas to come but I guess it will come down to how many of them actually exist in order for him to take over the new reigns as governor after Ritter. Other Great resources for sustainability around the state.
